So Big, But Still So Small

We had our four month check-up today, and it was one I have been dreading...

four month check-up = four month shots

I'm so glad E didn't know what was coming, because she was all smiles and completely playful before the main event! I had been waiting so long to find out how much she weighed. Our scale at home doesn't measure ounces, so I can't weigh her on our own. I feel like she's still so tiny, but she looks so big! The other day, I walked into my parent's house and they hadn't seen her for a week or so. Both my mom and dad commented on how much she'd grown.

They got us back to our room really quickly, and of course, we were in the same room that we were in last time she got her shots. This time, though, she was mesmerized by the colourful fish wallpaper! I told her all the different colours and she just stared and gurgled.

Poor Christopher... He suggested that I take pictures at this visit and he could comfort Evey, but I was selfish. I told him Mommies were for comforting and Papas were for taking pictures. The nurse agreed with me, so at least I wasn't the only mean one in the room!! LOL. I can always count on him to get great photos when I'm too busy being strong for my girl.

The nurse went ahead and got her weight, length and head measurements right away, but we didn't get Evey's stats until the end of the appointment. When Dr. Poole gave them to us, we were rolling! Evey felt so big to us, but she's still just a teeeny tiny thing! Let me start from the top and work my way down!

Height: 24 1/2 inches (50th Percentile)
Head: 15 3/4 inches (25th Percentile)
Weight: 11 lbs, 15 1/2 oz (5th Percentile)

I laughed, and promised Dr. Poole that I wasn't starving my girl! I loved answering all of the questions they had for us about Evey's development... She's definitely right on track! She can laugh and coo and cry with the best of them!

My favorite part of the exam was when Dr. Poole was checking her eyes. She said there isn't a lot of pigment in them - which blue eyes are actually lack of pigment - so she doesn't think they're going to change. Thanks to Evey's Mimi and Flash for providing both her parents with the recessive blue genes! I have been hoping and praying that her beautiful eyes would stay just as they are!

I'm so in love with those baby blues!

Dr. Poole said she looked absolutely perfect. She wasn't concerned at all with her petite figure and said she seems to be developing just fine!

I felt bad for the nurse when she came in. She has the worst job in the world... I definitely don't think I could do it, but as she got everything prepped, I held my girl close and talked and sang to her. Again, Evey took the oral injection like a pro. Everyone is always amazed at how well she takes meds, but she's so laid back that she just rolls with the punches.

E was absolutely incredible for the actual shots. I have honestly never been prouder of my brave girl than I was today. I remebered the "scream" from her first set of shots two months ago, and I was bracing myself for it, but it never came. She didn't make a peep until after the first shot was over, squealed through the second and wimpered for all of two minutes after it was over - then she was back to blowing raspberries and laughing at her Papa. I think the nurse was as shocked as I was!

Over all, the afternoon was much better than I expected, and now, I have the chance to enjoy my favorite part of shot days. The non-stop snuggling and nursing that I lather on my girl as much as she wants is definitely the best part!

Showing off her mad standing skills for Dr. Poole!

She's getting so strong!

Not one tear was shed!

Love that chubby-happy face!

Milestones: Four Months

E is getting her shots tomorrow, so I'm posting this a day early. I want to be there to snuggle her and comfort her in her time of need...

I can't believe how much of a difference one month has made. If I thought Evey had personality these last few months, it's grown as much as she has during this past month! She's so funny - her laugh absolutely cracks me up, so when she's laughing at me, I'm laughing back at her. It's a vicious cycle, I suppose, but it's one I've grown to love!

She's so interactive now, and while she still likes time to play on her own, she loves playing with her Papa and me more than anything. I say she's at the "interactive pet rock" stage.

She's fallen in love with the camera (some would say it's about time)! Every time I  pull it out, whether it's my cell phone, camcorder or my Nikon D3000, she just stares and stares. Sometimes I even get a pose! It's so funny watching her react to it! Today when I was taking her 4 month photos, she was shaking with excitement as she stared into the lens.

Her favorite song, now, is The Beatles, I Wanna Hold Your Hand. She grips my thumb and forefinger with both hands when I sing it to her and I find it ironic that she doesn't do that with every other song. It's as if she understands the words in her own little world. I've "adapted" the lyrics to be a bit more appropriate for a mom to sing to her daughter, "and when I hug you, I feel happy inside"...

She makes so many different noises now. She's been cooing for several months, but now she gurgles and blows raspberries. It's so adorable when she mimics Christopher and I with her sounds! She has conversations with us and responds with ooh's and aah's when we ask her questions.

Her favorite toy is her "ferris wheel" which I have so named because I can't think of anything better to call it. It has a black & white striped handle and four toys on a spinner and it looks like a ferris wheel. She loves spinning it and making it rattle or flash.

She sat up all on her own for the first time - granted, it was only around 20 seconds, but we all start somewhere! Her little, chunky legs are so strong and she can already stand up from a sitting position as long as there's something to hold onto. If she's assisted, she can sit up forever. She has no trouble at all with the Bumbo or Bebe Pod anymore. She can stand assisted for over five minutes at a time.

She still loves her baths and still sleeps through the night. She has herself on a schedule with naps and bedtimes, and knows when it's time for Mom to get home from work. She still loves daycare and she cries a lot less than she used to. She's definitely growing up and never ceases to amaze me with the things she already knows!

Music Lover

Sleeper

I know you're not supposed to let babies sleep on the boppy, and everything is SIDS crazy right now, but I had to get some stuff done, and I was monitoring her closely. She was so comfy - I just couldn't move her!

Baby, It's Cold Outside!

These are such cute pictures that I wanted to post them where I could!
I loved seeing Evey all bundled up for the first time!
