Spock On The Way

My wonderful husband has this theory.

He says that there are no female Vulcans because there are no logical women. We joke about this all the time and anytime I have a "Vulcan" moment, I'm always so proud!

We were in the middle of our Vulcan discussion and I pointed out that if I can't be Vulcan the he married a human - which is very frowned upon in the Vulcan traditions. We then realized that if he's Vulcan and I'm Human, our baby is half-Vulcan. Christopher thought this was promising - we're having a baby Spock!

In the picture below, I'm giving our baby the classic Spock salutation. Maybe it's self-serving, but what does it matter??? I'M HUMAN!!

Second Trimester, Here We Come!

With the thirteenth week fast approaching, we’ve got lots to be excited about and so much more to look forward to.

We had our twelve week check-up last week and even though I don’t have new pictures to share, we got to hear the baby’s heartbeat on the Doppler. It beat at 168bpm and it was so amazing to hear again. That quick little “pa-thump” is the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard.

Our doctor had only good news to report. She said that my blood pressure was great and that my labs all came back perfect. We’re happy to report that everything seems to be going according to plan!

Our next check-up is scheduled for Valentine’s Day and we get to find out the baby’s gender on President’s day!

We bought our crib this weekend – our first BIG baby purchase! We’ve been looking at hundreds of cribs online and at all kinds of baby stores and we fell in love with one of the first ones we saw. We figured it wasn’t too early to buy since we had coupons and I’m not too large to help out yet! In a couple of months Mommy will be carting around a pretty good sized fetus and Daddy would’ve been on his own!

We sold the bunk beds and the baby’s room was empty. We just couldn’t wait to start to fill it!! We’ll have it painted and decorated after we find out the gender, but this crib was a fabulous deal! We couldn’t pass it up. It will expand into a day bed and eventually a full sized bed with a nightstand instead of changing station. It’s absolutely perfect! The baby’s room is starting to look like a baby’s room!

I can definitely tell that the second trimester is on its way. I’m feeling much less nauseated and am starting to get more and more energy. My belly is starting to show, and although most people won’t be able to tell much of a difference, Christopher and I can definitely tell that a little sea-monkey is growing in my tummy! All the baby’s systems are fully formed and it’s entering its growth stage… It grew from the size of a lime last week to the size of a plum this week. I can’t believe we’re already a third of the way through our pregnancy. This baby will be here before we know it!!

So... We're adopting some girls!

They say that being pregnant makes you have weird dreams. Well, I'm here to tell you that they aren't kidding. Friday night, I took my computer to bed with me and worked on importing some audio books onto my iTunes. While I was still working on my computer, Jenni rolls over and looks up at me, eyes wide and surprisingly clear for her having been asleep for a couple of hours. She mumbled something and when I asked what she had said, she told me to fill in the empty boxes. Not knowing what she was talking about, I asked her what she was referring to and she told me to make sure I filled in the lists so that we could get the girls tomorrow. In my wanting to know where this was going I told her that I would be sure to do it. After that, she asked if that made sense and that she wanted to make sure the paperwork was finished in order to finalize the adoption. I told her not to worry, that I was finishing it up. After that she rolled back over and fell back asleep... assuming she wasn't already.

Last night was much the same situation. Around 12:30 Jenni began to stir next to me and talk in her sleep. What she said was really, quite funny, it went a bit like this:

"Mumble mumble mumble, mumble mumble. Mumble mumble, mumble mumble mumble mumble."

She then rolled over and once again looked up at me with the same wide, clear eyes as the night before and said quite frankly:

"I turned on the self back return."

I asked her what she was talking about, but the only response was a stare that wasn't blank, but was a combination of "I love you" and yet "you annoy me" at the same time. After about a minute of that stare, she threw off the covers. I asked her if she was hot.
She replied, "I have to go pee...." and then in a somewhat distressed tone, "But I don't remember how."

She then got up and preceded to the bathroom. After a few moments, she returned, this time quite lucid. When she got back in bed, she must have seen my face because she asked if she had said anything to me. I recounted the incident from a few moments before. She then began rolling with laughter saying that she did not recall any of it, that she came to while she was walking to the bathroom.

My wife has on occasion (very seldom actually) woken in the middle of the night and said things to me, but it usually involves much screaming and giant spiders coming down from the ceiling. This was two nights in a row. I guess this is one more thing I get to look forward to over the next several months. At least they're comical, or have been thus far. I'll be sure to keep you updated on any other funny dreams my wife has... just don't tell her I told you.

Nine Weeks and Counting...

Sorry it’s been so long since I’ve blogged. I spent all of week 7 sick with a sinus infection (being sick and pregnant is ZERO fun, by the way…) and I spent week 8 recovering from the sinus infection. So now we’re in nine weeks into our pregnancy! Time is absolutely FLYING by. According to thebump.com, our baby is the size of a green olive. Our little embryo has now officially graduated to fetus-hood. Its basic physical structures are in place and it’s facial features are going more distinct by the day. The good news? Our sea-monkey is kind of starting to look like a baby!
I am feeling more and more pregnant by the day; and even though I’m completely exhausted, spending half my days nauseated, and waking up three times a night to pee, I can’t help being thankful for the amazing miracle that is growing inside of me. I also have to be thankful that I have only “officially” puked once – which is apparently a marvelous feat in the first trimester! Yesterday was the first day I had enough energy to do some cleaning after work – which must have been a great little break for my amazing husband. We can feel the second trimester getting closer and closer every day.

I had my first craving – lemons. I’ve never cared for lemons and I’d prefer to drink water over lemonade, but my need for them has been growing over the past few weeks. We used to have this hand soap at work (lemongrass & basil) that smelled just like lemon Pine Sol and whenever I went over to my in-laws’ house while they were cleaning, it smelled so good. One day last week, though, the cravings started. I had Chick-fil-a for lunch and ordered lemonade for some reason. I called Christopher drooling because it was so wonderful.
We decided that we’d buy a bag of lemons so we could make me some homemade lemonade later, but little did we know – one bag wouldn’t be enough.
That night we went to Covington to visit our friends. They were out shopping when we showed up, so we met them at Michael’s and a craving hit. I scoured the shelves for a box of lemonheads. I knew that would do the trick, but I couldn’t find them anywhere. As we started out the door, out of the corner of my eye, I caught a glimpse of that beautiful yellow box on the very last shelf. I ran over and grabbed a bag and went to the shortest line. The lady finished checking out the customer in front of me and then left the register! I was a little put out, but I went to the next line which was ending up a transaction as well. As soon as that transaction was finished, the employee left again… That was the last straw and “psycho chick” roared her ugly head and said “don’t they realize I’m pregnant???” The employee heard my cry of desperation and assured me that she’d be right back.
Right back wasn’t good enough. I opened up the bag of lemonheads and started shoving them in my mouth as fast as I could eat them. When the cashier returned, I paid for my already half-eaten purchase and we continued on our way.
Our next stop was Babies-R-Us and let’s just say that my bag of sour-y goodness made that stop with me. Unfortunately, so did Psycho Chick.

Poor Christopher, became the next victim as he reached into my sacred bag and emerged with a small handful of lemonheads. I said, in a not-very-nice tone, “why don’t you get your own lemonheads!” I felt really awful later, but I was a mad-person. I had no idea what I was saying, but thankfully, Jenny McCarthy had prepared us for those “Psycho Chick” moments and Christopher knew he couldn’t take it to heart. So he did what any loving husband would do… he ceased with the lemonheads.
He has been such a trooper and has done everything in his power to subside my crazy indulgence. Like I said earlier, we found out that one bag of lemons was definitely not enough. We ended up at Sam’s Club with two more bulk bags and I now have a substantial stock of lemonade and lemonade concentrate in our fridge and freezer and my mouth is raw from all the acid I’ve been downing.
Christopher decided that the baby is going to be like his daddy – a lemon lover… I, on the other hand, will be perfectly content when those cravings fade.
Let’s just say it’s been a bit eventful around the Davis house over the past couple of weeks, but we are still looking forward to all the curve-balls this pregnancy will throw at us!
